Little Signals : Emotional Regulation
Toolkit

Project Overview

I developed the Little Signals brand through a series of interviews with therapists working in both private and clinical settings. I built out the full brand and its supporting elements, creating a cohesive toolkit that connects research, design, and application.

About

Little Signals is a body-based emotional regulation toolkit designed to help children recognize and respond to their feelings before they have the language to name them. Rooted in the intersection of design and psychology, it translates emotional awareness into accessible, everyday tools. Through a system of cards, a poster, a book, and tactile elements, the project supports a proactive, somatic approach that helps children build awareness, develop coping strategies, and feel more in control of their emotions.

This process began with 3D printing in Fusion, but through refinement, I transitioned to laser cutting as a more effective approach. I used acrylic glue to layer the elements and, incorporated the Cricut and heat press to develop a bag for housing the pieces. The final outcome is a tactile, interactive object designed to support emotional reflection.

Development

Using the Zones of Regulation, I developed an intuitive color palette and a custom hand-drawn typeface to create a more human-centered, emotionally connected visual system.

Takeaways
This project brought together research, design, and making, strengthening my ability to translate complex emotional concepts into accessible, human-centered tools. It also deepened my understanding of iterative process; learning when to shift methods, refine materials, and build a cohesive system that works both conceptually and physically.
